3 Member SIT Set up to Probe Amritsar Encounter

The Punjab Government today formed a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into the killing of SAD leader Mukhjit Singh Verka. The Akali Dal leader was killed yesterday in exchange of fire with the Punjab Police, which claimed that he was mistaken for a gangster. Eyewitnesses said the policemen were in civil dress. A team headed by IG Crime Nageshwar Rao visited the spot today and collected evidences and took the footage of CCTV camera installed outside a rubber factory near the shootout spot. Meanwhile, Singh's family has demanded registration of a murder case against the policemen and their dismissal from service. They have also demanded immediate arrest of all policemen involved in the case.  The family has also agreed to conduct a postmortem after the SIT was set up, which they had refused earlier. The protest dharna being held by SAD leaders and residents at Vallah-Verka bypass road after the incident yesterday was lifted in the afternoon.
