Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh likely to become as chief ministerial candidate of the BJP for the upcoming UP Assembly election. The final decision about chief ministerial candidate is expected to be announced at the two-day national executive meeting of the party scheduled to be held in Allahabad.
According to reports, if not CM face, Rajnath Singh is likely to be assigned with key responsibilities of the campaign committee in the poll bound state. Rajnath Singh previously served as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh from October 2000 to March 2002 and as a Cabinet Minister in the Vajpayee Government.
Names of Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani, MP Varun Gandhi and Yogi Adityanath are already doing rounds for the BJP's chief ministerial candidate for crucial UP poll. Uttar Pradesh will go to Assembly elections early in 2017. The state has an Assembly comprising 403 seats and a party/alliance has to win 202 seats to form the government.
