Situation turned dramatic outside Anna Hazare's office at Ralegan Siddhi, when a 30-year-old man attempted suicide by consuming poison, as the social activist allegedly refused to entertain his complaint. The incident took place on Wednesday evening. The man was immediately admitted to Ahmednagar-based civil hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment.
The person has been identified as Santosh Balu Nikat, a resident of Ambijalgaon in Karjat taluka. Police suspect that frustration over personal issues could have been the actual reason that provoked Nikat's suicide attempt. It was reported that Nikat had left his home on Wednesday morning saying that he was going to Karjat town. But instead, he travelled to Ralegan Siddhi.
According to Anna Hazare's close associates, Nikat was waiting for him at the Bhrashtachar Virodhi Janandolan office. Nikat wished to discuss certain issues with Hazare. However, the anti-corruption crusader found the matter to be personal and expressed his desire to not get involved in it. Furthermore, Hazare also told him that he takes up those issues which are of large public interest.
After being disappointed with Hazare, Nikat took out a bottle of poison, which he was already carrying and consumed it outside the office. After consumption, he collapsed on the ground. The local villagers immediately rushed him to hospital.
