Enormous people and admirers of Dr. Kalam reached his home at Rameswaram to attend the last rites. The mortal remains of APJ was rounded in our tri-colored flag and flown to his place in a special aircraft.
Abdul’s body was taken to the airport and officials bid adieu to the person who became an idol for countless people. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu escorted the mortals of Kalam to Rameswaram.
Tamil Nadu declared holiday on Thursday, but the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Jayalalitha is not attending the last pray as her health is not supporting. She empowered seven cabinet ministers to represent her and the state government at the funeral.
According to a Jayalalitha’s statement, "I have great love and respect for Mr A P J Abdul Kalam. It is my desire to attend his funeral and pay respects to him. However, due to my health condition I am unable to undertake a journey."
Actress turned politician also added that “I have also directed that a public holiday be declared tomorrow as a mark of respect to Kalam."
