After bearing the brunt of incessant attack on Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj on Lalit Modi issue, BJP returned fire later in the day calling it “bankruptcy in politics” of Congress party for raising a “non issue.” “By publicising the five-year-old photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Lalit Modi at IPL cricket match, when there was no case against (Lalit) Modi, they are trying to make a point where it does not exist,” Environment Minister  Prakash Javadekar said. “If that be the stick to measure then all Prominent Ministers of Congress have hundreds of photographs with Lalit Modi. Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have been photographed with worst scamsters of coal scam, 2G spectrum scam, CWG scam, and so on,”  Mr Javadekar lashed out. Reacting to the charge that Lalit Modi was helped by External Affairs minister when he was “fugitive,” the senior BJP leader said  it is the Congress party which should explain how he became fugitive in the first place when it was in power. “They have a track record of such things. Warren Anderson (Bhopal Gas leak mass deaths accused) escaped the country when Congress party was ruling,” he contended. BJP government, Mr Modi and Ms Swaraj came under severe criticism for allegedly helping scam-tainted Lalit Modi get travel documents from U.K. to Portugal for treatment of his wife suffering from cancer.
