One Rank One Pension is what the main issue facing by the ex-servicemen. The ex-servicemen are demanding for OROP for so long period, but Modi government hasn’t responded for their demands.
According to some sources, it is revealed that government is likely to announce OROP on Saturday. Defence Minister Manohar Parikar will announce the OROP scheme at 3:00 PM.
But the veterans are saying that we cannot trust the government. The Central government wanted to disclose the issue and to stop all the protests and hunger strikes making by the ex-servicemen.
Regardless of date of retirement every pensioner will be provided with equal pension to military personnel retiring with same rank with the same length of service. The government is expected to benefit the pension for three million pensioners and it also wanted to revise the pension for every five years but veterans wanted to revise for every two years.
There are many differences between govt decision and veterans demands, central wants to provide the pension from the account of July 1, 2014 whereas, pensioners wants it from April 1,2014.
"We reject this unilateral attempt to implement OROP. The move smacks of arrogance. We will not settle for anything less than pension revision every two years," said Maj Singh who heads the Indian Ex-servicemen Movement.
According to government calculation, it will cost around 10000 to 12000 crores to fix the pension. In which widows will be paid arrears in lump-sum, others will be paid in four half yearly installments.
