Italian born Sonia’s earlier name was Edvige Antonia Albina Maino is an Indian politician who born on 9th December 1946 today celebrates her b-day.

Sonia was born into an Italian family in Lusiana, a small town near Veneto, Italy. Gandhi has been raised in a traditional Roman Catholic Family. In 1964 she reached Cambridge to learn English at the Bell Educational Trust’s language school in the city of Cambridge.

At that time she met Rajiv Gandhi who had enrolled in Trinity College at the University of Cambridge.

There they fall in love with each other and married in the year 1968 following Hindu rituals. Then she stepped in in-laws-house whose mother in-law is then a Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi.

The couple has two children named Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra. Many protests have been faced by Sonia as she belongs from different nationality.

Sonia did not involve in politics until death of her spouse Rajiv in the year 1991. As a wife of Prime Minister she accompanied him for his foreign visits and all.

After his assassination she entered into politics and joined Congress as a primary member in the Calcutta Plenary session and after one year she became the party leader.

Many of the party members also challenged her for becoming Prime Minister as she belongs from different nationality. With 62 days of span she was offered the post of Party president which she accepted without denying.

Sonia later defeated BJP leader Sushma Swaraj in Lok Sabha elections and won the seat.  She is one of eth best dressed political leaders in India.

Sonia was named many times in the prestigious Forbes magazine as the most powerful woman. In the 125 year history of the congress party Sonia is the longest serving president of the congress party till date.
