After being selected as Chief Minister for the fifth time Nitish Kumar is now in the race to fulfill the promises made by him in the election campaign.
On Thursday, he said that ban on liquor, the statement made in his election rally will be fulfilled and it may start from April the coming year.
"I had promised before the elections that prohibition would be implemented across the state if our government comes to power," he said, "We are committed to fulfiling that promise."
Nitish also asked the chief secretary and the principal secretary to generate some rules and policy so that ban on liquor will come into force form April 2016.
But, when coming to the revenue generation the main income generator in Bihar is liquor which generates around 4,000 crore per year.
It was estimated that by the year 2010 liquor will generate Rs 1,098.66 crore. "The excise department is earning revenue of about Rs 4,000 crore now, but in the interest of the public in general and the poor and the women in particular, the prohibition decision has been taken," said Kumar.
CM of Bihar said that, revenue generation from liquor which spoils the health is not that important and so taken the decision to quit alcohol in the state.
"The people from the lower income group are the worst hit as it not only takes a toll on one's health but also affects the family's growth and children's education. It robs the families of peace and makes women the biggest sufferers," said CM of Bihar.
