According to the media reports, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport have seized 180 pieces of iPhone’s which smugglers are to be sold at grey market for very huge price.
“The seizures were made from different passengers and most of them were coming from Singapore or Hong Kong. One flyer was caught with 10 new iPhone 6S,” said a customs official at IGIA.
Karol Bagh, which is the largest grey market of all North India, is filled with the selling of smuggled iPhones. In India the selling in the original market starts from October 16. The official statement has not made by the iPhone team regarding the price of the phone.
But, various websites in India are showing the price up to 60,000, for the color that is in demand rose gold is rating around 67,498. “Smugglers are expected to earn `30,000-50,000 per phone as there is a huge demand in India, especially Delhi. People want to own it as soon as possible,” said the customs official.
The customs official said that, if one has to get the phone in a proper way they has to pay 36% of the value of the phone to customs duty, to avoid this pay passengers are smuggling the phones. After seized to get back the phone, the smuggler has to pay customs duty money and also penalty of 1,000.
