This happens in the month of October for nine-day long period. This is the Phuket Vegetarian Festival which celebrates in the ninth lunar month of the Chinese calendar. The Chinese community celebrates this festival believing that abstinence from meat and various stimulants during this month may help them obtain good health and peace of mind.
The main motto of the festive is people decide to adhere to a strict vegetarian diet and pray to Nine Emperor Gods for the purification of their mind and body. The main commitments of the festival are:
Cleanliness of the body during the festival, Clean kitchen utensils not to be used by others who do not participate in the festival, Wear white during the festival, Behave correctly, both physically and mentally, Avoid eating meat, Avoid sex, Avoid alcohol, People in mourning should not participate, Pregnant women and menstruating women should not attend ceremonies.
