Whoever said the average Indian film fan gets swayed by over the top promotions even if there is nothing else that holds his interest needs to take a look at the fate of Katrina Kaif and Aditya Roy Kapoor’s Fitoor. This Abhishek Kapoor-directed film was rejected (well, almost) at the ticket windows when it collected a mere Rs 14.11 crore in the three days since its release on Friday. Divya Khosla Kumar’s Sanam Re, and even Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool fared much better than the biggest Hindi release of this week.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted on Monday, “#Fitoor grew on Sat and Sun, after a lacklustre start on Fri. Benefitted from Valentine’s Day [Sun], but overall numbers remain low... #Fitoor Fri 3.61 cr, Sat 4.54 cr, Sun 5.96 cr. Total: ? 14.11 cr. India biz. #Fitoor - Overseas: Crosses $ 1.5 million [approx $ 1,503,000 = ? 10.24 cr] in opening weekend. Some territories yet to report.”interestingly, Sanam Re, starring Pulkit Samrat and Yami Gautam has scored big on the ticket windows. “#SanamRe has a SUPER weekend! Fri 5.04 cr, Sat 5.56 cr, Sun 6.45 cr. Total: ? 17.05 cr. India biz,” Taran tweeted.
In fact, the film became the biggest earner this weekend, despite a big Bollywood release (Fitoor) and a popular Hollywood film (Deadpool) hitting theatres on the same day.
Director Abhishek Kapoor’s Fitoor is based on Charles Dickens’ novel Great Expectations, and is set in the beautiful land of Kashmir. Tabu has played Beghum Hazrat in the film and has been receiving praise for her role.
Sanam Re also stars veteran actor Rishi Kapoor and shows a love triangle between Yami Gautam, Pulkit Samrat and Urvashi Rautela.
