Christchurch and Melbourne will host the opening events of the ICC World Cup on February 12. The Christchurch event will be a free, family friendly event featuring appearances by leading New Zealand artists Solo3 Mio, Ginny Blackmore and Hayley Western, as well as cricketing legends Richard Hadlee, Stephen Fleming and current New Zealand captain Brendon Mc Cullum. The Melbourne celebration will involve former and current World Cup players and legends, cultural and music performances, a fireworks display and a yet to be revealed 'special moment'. It will reflect the diversity and excitement of the 14 competing nations and include some icons from Australian entertainment. The Christchurch event will be held at North Hagley Park while the Melbourne event will be hosted at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, Linlithgow Ave.
